Welcome to Cambridge Creative Studio! 👋
Led by Cambridge artists and teachers Kelly Briggs and James Downs, Cambridge Creative Studio provides young and creative people two days chock full of fun and engaging activities! We are running two groups this time around, for ages 6-10 and ages 11-15 years old.
With a range of classes, workshops and fun activities aimed at boosting learning, creativity and wellbeing, this is a great way to fill the October Half Term and try something new. 🙆♀️
The event takes place on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th October, 10am-3.30pm in the beautiful and central Downing Place, just opposite John Lewis in Cambridge. Our venue is fully self-contained, providing a safe internal courtyard for fresh air, and all the facilities you could wish for. 🌿
You can get tickets via the link for full days, half days, or both days! There are also discounts available for additional siblings and concessionary rates - just get in touch. 📩
All of our sessions are led by experienced and engaging teachers, and include the following:
- Art workshops (all materials provided!) 🎨
- Drama 🎭 and movement activities.🤸♂️
- Music-based classes 🎼
- An emphasis on wellbeing, teamwork, problem-solving and inclusion 🤝
About Us:
🎨 Kelly Briggs MA 👩🎨
Kelly Briggs is a practicing artist and researcher who has recently finished an MA in Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, London. Her studio is based at Cambridge Artworks where she is currently working on large scale abstract mixed media pieces. Kelly also has extensive experience teaching a range of young people in schools, at Kettles Yard, and more broadly runs workshops focussed on art for wellbeing for all.
Kelly’s cross disciplinary practice is focused on the exploration of connection in a world that is increasingly affected by the isolation of a global pandemic. Through screen printing, interactive sculpture, painting and performance, the art acts as a catalyst to ask the question,"How can we use art and creativity to connect with others and the world around us?" This question is increasingly important in a world where us humans are destroying ourselves, our cohabiters and our home (the planet).
🧘♂️ James Downs MEd (Cantab) 🧠
James is a Trainee Counselling Psychologist and yoga teacher who is undertaking a doctoral training as a therapist and mental health researcher. During his Masters in Eduction & Psychology at Cambridge University he focussed on understanding "resilience" amongst children and young people, and has been extensively involved at a policy level with NHS England to better support families and individuals with a range of mental health problems.
James has also held vocal and keyboard scholarships at Cambridge University and was the principal violin of the University Orchestra. He believes in the power of social connection and education to support wellbeing, as well as using creative methods to engage young people in activities that develop their health and capacity for fulfilment.
